13 minutes could save you 13% too- on your medical bills

How would you like to save 13% on your doctor and hospital bills?  Or how about a 12 month, zero interest payment plan?  Sounds a little too good to be true… at least that was my thought when the AblePay sign at my doctor’s office caught my eye.

Since I’m also all about saving money I had to investigate.  So I was pleasantly surprised that this is in fact a legitimate and easy way to trim your out of pocket costs or stretch out your time to pay with participating healthcare providers.  It’s free to join, and works whether you have health insurance through work, through the marketplace, through Medicare, or none at all.

Local Allentown company, AblePay Health partners with healthcare providers for a win-win in medical billing. They streamline payment collection for providers, assuming the risk, while patients get flexible billing terms and discounts. When you sign up for membership in AblePay at https://ablepayhealth.com/, you’ll be asked to choose a default payment term that determines your discount.  Choosing to pay your hospital or doctor bill via your bank account in one payment gets you a 13% discount off of that bill, or one payment by credit card is a 10% discount. You can also choose to pay in 3 or 6 payments with smaller discounts, or even make 12 monthly payments at 0% interest in lieu of a discount.  Not sure if you picked the right one?  No worries, you can change it at any time for future claims.

13% may not seem like much, especially if we’re talking about a $25 copay- but if you saw that $3.25 lying on the ground, you’d pick it up, wouldn’t you?  And I was awfully glad I saw that sign before I paid a much bigger hospital bill.

Once you’re enrolled, upload any unpaid bills, even those incurred prior to joining, and they’ll take it from there.  AblePay, whose headquarters are right here Allentown by the way, contacts your provider, negotiates the discount, and processes your payment according to your default method.  They’re on the lookout for new bills from your providers going forward, or you can upload any others you receive.  That’s it, it’s that easy!

Does your provider participate?  Look them up here.
